BPW Honours NCWS National President, Princess Edna Azura
The National President of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), Nigeria, Princess Edna D.D. Azura (Kwatam Mutaku), has been honoured by the Business and Professional Women (BPW) Sapphire Club International, Abuja Chapter, with an Honorary Membership Award in recognition of her outstanding leadership and commitment to women’s empowerment.
The induction and inauguration ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in Abuja, brought together prominent women leaders, advocates, and professionals from across the country. The event also symbolised a growing collaboration between the NCWS and BPW, two leading organisations championing women’s development and equality in Nigeria.
In her citation, the Immediate Past President of BPW Nigeria, Mrs Christy Adejo, described Princess Azura as a “trailblazer and voice of hope” whose work has touched lives across communities. She noted that Princess Azura’s lifelong dedication to gender equity, social justice, and national development reflects the core values of the BPW.
As the 16th National President of the NCWS, Princess Azura has led various empowerment initiatives, strengthened unity among women’s groups, and amplified women’s voices in governance and policy-making. Her tenure has been marked by a renewed focus on collaboration, mentorship, and sustainable development for women at both grassroots and national levels.
Speaking during the ceremony, Miss Yinka Ajibola, Chair of Standing Committee Projects and former National President of BPW Nigeria, formally welcomed Princess Azura into the BPW network, presenting her with a commemorative plaque and membership pin. She described the induction as “a recognition of service, excellence, and leadership that continues to inspire women across Nigeria.”
In her response, Princess Azura expressed appreciation to BPW for the honour and reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the cause of women. She emphasised the importance of cooperation among women’s organisations in driving national progress and ensuring that women are fully represented in decision-making processes.
“The strength of women lies in unity and purpose,” she said. “This honour is not for me alone but for every Nigerian woman working tirelessly for a better society.”
The event was attended by members of the NCWS, BPW executives, women leaders from various sectors, and other distinguished guests who commended both organisations for their shared vision of promoting women’s empowerment, leadership, and economic inclusion.
Princess Azura’s induction as an honorary member of BPW Sapphire Club International was widely seen as a celebration of her enduring impact and a step toward deeper collaboration between Nigerian women’s organisations.
