Kano NCWS President Leads Delegation to Abuja, Joins National President in Advocacy Engagement with Kano Stakeholders

The President of the Kano State Chapter of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), Nigeria, on Saturday led her executive team to Abuja on an advocacy visit to the NCWS National President, Princess Edna D.D Azura , where they joined Kano State leaders, the Heqd of Civil Service, the ALGON Chairman, Local Government Chairmen, and key stakeholders in a strategic meeting.

The high-level engagement, held in Abuja, focused on strengthening collaboration between the NCWS national body and the Kano State leaders, while also deepening advocacy on women’s empowerment, inclusion, and development.

In her address, Princess Edna D. D. Azura commended the Kano delegation for their unity and commitment to women’s advancement, describing their visit as timely and significant.

She emphasised the need for the full recognition and inclusion of NCWS in all Kano State programs and policies — from the state level down to local government councils.

“I want NCWS to be fully recognised and involved in everything that concerns Kano State — from planning to execution — because empowering women means strengthening families and securing the future,” Princess Azura stated.

The National President reaffirmed NCWS’s role as the foremost umbrella body for all women’s organisations in Nigeria, founded in 1958 to unify and amplify women’s voices across communities.

She outlined the Council’s major areas of focus, including economic empowerment, health advocacy, education, and the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), stressing that women’s financial and social independence are key to sustainable national development.

Princess Azura further called on traditional and political leaders from Kano to collaborate closely with NCWS, noting that the Council’s structure and presence across all local government areas make it a valuable partner in grassroots mobilisation and policy advocacy.

“When you empower the women in your care, you build stronger families, safer communities, and a more peaceful state,” she added.

The meeting also featured interactive discussions between the National President, the Kano NCWS delegation, and Kano leaders present in Abuja, who pledged their support for the Council’s ongoing programs and advocacy initiatives.
