NATIONAL PRESIDENT BROADCAST ON WHISPER RADIO 87.7FM ON 1st MAY, 2026.
The National President of the National Council for Women’s Societies (NCWS), Princess Edna Azura, was on air with the radio station on the need of women to get involved in the strata of leadership, also appeal for the passage of the Special Seats Bill to our legistators, declaring that Nigeria must move from symbolic gestures to genuine structural inclusion. Speaking on Whispers Radio 87.7FM on May 1st, 2026, she emphasized that the bill is not an act of charity but a necessary response to the country’s abysmal record of female representation, where women hold less than four percent(4%) of National Assembly seats. She said that women, who form nearly half the population and the majority of the electorate, must be counted in power and policy-not just in population statistics.
Beyond legislative advocacy, Princess Azura called on women to rise beyond traditional party roles as mere “mobilizers” and instead demand strategic positions within party leadership structures. She acknowledged progress made by women in parties like the APC, ADC, PDP and other parties while stressing that deeper inclusion in finance, strategy, and decision-making is essential. Backed by coordinated petitions from groups such as FIDA Nigeria, NAWOJ, and the League of Women Voters, she framed the current push as a “new covenant” that lawmakers cannot afford to ignore as the 2026 census and 2027 elections approach.
In a heartfelt closing, Princess Azura urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly to heed the nation’s conscience, warning that Nigeria cannot continue raising daughters in a country where their voices are heard but not honored. “This is a call to justice,” she said. “This is a call to build a Nigeria where every girl child knows she belongs, not just in the home, but in the halls of leadership. For when we lift a woman, we lift a nation.”
