NCWS Nigeria Participates in 2026 IWD Press Briefing and Grand Iftar held at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs Abuja, Nigeria
The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) Nigeria participated in the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD) Press Briefing and Pre-CSW70 Departure organized by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
The event featured a presentation by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, FSI, who outlined the Ministry’s 2026 agenda focused on the economic empowerment and protection of women, families, and vulnerable groups across Nigeria.
The NCWS delegation was led by the National President and included the National Newsletter Editor, Mrs. Comfort Ahua Ngobua; Mrs. Nancy Bulus Godwin, Past President, NCWS FCT Chapter; Mrs. Nnenna Emedolibe, Programme Officer, NCWS Nigeria; as well as two aides.
During the briefing, the Honourable Minister highlighted key initiatives aimed at expanding social protection and reaching women at the grassroots level. These initiatives include EmpowerHer774, the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up, WAVE, PowerHer774, Women-on-Wheels, and the Happy Woman digital platform.
Key messages from the Minister’s address emphasized the importance of translating policy into tangible outcomes:
- Policy must translate into protection
- Opportunity must translate into prosperity
- Leadership must translate into results
Following the High-Level Ministerial Press Briefing, NCWS joined other stakeholders—including government representatives, development partners, the private sector, and the media—at a Grand Iftar hosted by the Hon Minister of Women Aff.
The Iftar provided an opportunity for reflection, engagement, and strengthened collaboration among stakeholders. The evening featured testimonies from women who have benefited from the Ministry’s programmes, highlighting the impact of ongoing initiatives.
The event underscored the importance of partnership, dialogue, and sustained commitment in advancing the welfare and empowerment of women across Nigeria.
